Mexican President, Felipe Calderon, has been fighting the war against drugs for two years. With a transnational concentrated effort on combating the
cartels, turf wars over trade routes have increased and violence has
started spilling over the US border. Mexico and the US, together, have
acknowledged the role the US plays not only as the demand region for
drugs, but also as a supplier of guns. Drugs tend to travel north as
weapons travel south.
